Back to 15mm!

I've made a fatal error in doing the vehicles for the 2nd 6mm army before the infantry.
One look at all of those fiddly infantry sitting in the box, and I lost the will to go on.
My problem is that I enjoy playing with infantry armies (tank battles have always left me rather cold), but I hate painting them. A tank is a lot easier to paint and have it end up looking like a tank.
So in order to save my sanity I'm doing some more 15mm work.
A friend is looking to do some 15mm scifi skirmish, and I remembered that I had an old Quick Reaction Force Israeli platoon bag that I'd put aside to paint up "scifi" at some stage.
So I've based up a section (more on that later - trying something new), and put together a Commando (they always look the business) and also a chinese Type 70 (also QRF) beacuse what's a scifi game without missiles going everywhere ala Robotech???
Here's some pics:

Camouflage Patterns

I came across this site a few weeks ago : http://www.kamouflage.net/
It's an excellent resource for moderns gamers that details an incredible number of camouflage patterns from around the world.
Plus it's an Australian site!

Note that some of the pages appear to feature "scantily clad" ladies in various camouflage uniforms. Nothing I've seen is very racy, but if your workplace is concerned about that sort of thing; it's safest to check it out at home.

Towed Guns

I've also done some work on the towed guns and their Matador tows for the Colonial AK47 army.

I need to sort out some basing for the vehicles, and particularly the guns. Again; I need more light sources for the pictures!

Colonial Armour

I decided to start on the vehicles for the my 6mm AK47 Republic Colonial force. I've started the infantry as well, but they haven't gotten very far.
I've painted up the Saracen APCs and the M48 Patton Tank.

Still having some issues with lighting for the pictures. I think I need more light sources.

6mm AK47 Republic - One army down!

Well I've basically finished one of the 6mm AK47 forces; the ZNWI Peoples Popular Front force.

I still haven't painted the Truck-mounted AA's but I'm not happy with the model I currently have. I'll play with them undercoated for the moment, but they really need to be painted up as the Deacon self-propelled guns that they are. Maybe I can cut down some of the recoiless rifle team bases to fit in the back of the trucks?

Here are some more pics I took quickly tonight - apologies for the focus on some.

I've started undercoating my colonial force and they'll be going under the brush over the next few weeks... or until my whimsy turns back to 15mm...

6mm ZNWI Infantry completed

I've finally painted all of the infantry for my 6mm AK47 People's Popular Front force; the Ztumre National Workers Intervention (ZNWI). Apologies for the photo quality, but I'm in a hurry to get to bed. Trying to balance work and life is a killer.

Here are some more close-ups:

I'm not going to get the chance to do a lot of painting over the coming few months. We have a number of weddings to attend, and I need to get some painting and other jobs done around the house that we moved into 12 months ago.
I'll try to post when I have more to share.

As a final note I'll leave you with a tasty bento-style box of 6mm:

GenConOz '08

Haven't had a chance to update the put in any updates or get any modelling done over the last few weeks. Visitors, and my brother's wedding have conspired against me.
I did manage to get along to GenConOz recently, and I took some photos of various tables and the Warhammer 40,000 tournament. It was a good day and we had a great time playing Munchkin.

More 6mm AK47

Change of tack this weekend - I decided to leave the 15mm alone and do some more work on the 6mm AK47 Republic project.
I finished off the regular infantry and commands from the ZNWI. To celebrate, I decided to tacke a run at one of the vehicles as well.

I only have the some mortars and RPGs left to finish off the ZNWI infantry, and then it's on to their trucks and technicals.

A Game....Finally!

Brad came over on Sunday afternoon, and we managed to muddle our way through the first scenario (Contacting Trouble) from the Ambush Alley rules.

Play was slow and painful with many rules missed and dropped along the way.

Insurgent player managed to pull of some excellent reinforcement roles that saw 8+ Insurgents blocking each of the escape routes for the Marines and Contractors. The US won, but suffered high casualty rates, and we weren't sure in the end if they should have made it out of contact with the number of casualties they were carrying.

I'm clear now that I have a lot of reading up to do. The interruption rules that seemed so straight forward when I've read them previously became confusing on the table. The biggest problem was that I hadn't looked at the rules for a couple of months, and 10 minutes read beforehand was inadequate.

I'm planning to trying the single player variant rules over the next few weeks to firm up the mechanics before I unleash the game on anyone else.

Took some pics at the end of the game of last mauled US fireteam escaping off-board:

Bits and pieces from my latest order

Because there isn't a lot of photos of Irregular Miniatures stuff around the place, I'm trying to make sure that I take photos and post everything that I get my hands on.
The last order I place with Eureka was a mixed bag.
I needed to get the final 3 figures I needed for my ranger chalk, but it wasn't worth just getting those sent up. I perused the site and picked up a miscellaneous assortment of "things that will come in handy" to make it worth the postage.
Below is the final grenadier and my two M249 SAWs for the ranger chalk. I also picked up the cameraman and reporter from the Irregular 15mm Riot range as I figure that will come in handy for a few scenarios for Ambush Alley.

I also needed to pick up some tows for my 5.5" Guns for the 6mm AK47 project, so I got a couple of Matador trucks. These were the original vehicle used to tow these guns in World War II, so I figured they were appropriate. I also grabbed some Recoiless Rifle teams from the Vietnam Range. These should slot nicely into my AK47 armies as an alternative weapon to provide more firepower.

I was keen to try to get some civilians for Ambush Alley, so I ordered the Arab Civilians from Irregular's colonial range. These would probably be really well suited to an Afghan game, but since I've ended up with african militia for Ambush Alley, these really don't fit. Although they will see further life as Pulp figures, especially the bloke in the fez 2nd from left. Due to an ordering mistake I also ended up with 2 Austrian Dragoons (NC121 instead of FZ121). Not sure what I'll do with them, but here they are for completeness.

Finally, I wanted to scope out doing Fantasy in 6mm (probably using the Hordes of the Things rules), so I picked up a strip of Dwarf Warriors from the Irregular 6mm range. They're really quite good, but tiny! They're in 6mm AND DWARFS! I also picked up a 6mm Ground Zero Games Mini-Bug. I want to use these as the antagonists in a 15mm sci-fi game. Think Starship Troopers.
